The report contains data on the tar, nicotine and carbon monoxide content of 1107 varieties of domestic cigarettes sold in 1993. It is the most recent in a series of reports on tar and nicotine test results that the Commission has submitted annually to Congress since 1967.

According to the T&N Report, 14 cigarette brands have one milligram or less of tar, while 12 brands have 25 milligrams or more. The Tobacco Institute Testing Laboratory (TITL) conducted the testing. The Commission monitored the lab and its testing procedure, and reviewed the testing results prior to publication.

The T&N Report also includes levels of tar, nicotine, and carbon monoxide for generic, private label and not-widely-avail- able cigarettes, which were not tested by TITL but were tested by the cigarette companies using the same methodology, processes and test procedures as TITL used, with the results supplied to the FTC.

The data on tar, nicotine, and carbon monoxide that are contained in the report will appear in the Federal Register shortly.
