The American Dental Trade Association has petitioned the Federal Trade Commission, on behalf of itself and Association members who were also respondents, to terminate a 1950 consent order settling charges that the Association and various members engaged in anticompetitive conduct in the sale of dental goods. The Association seeks termination pursuant to the Commission's "sunsetting" policy, under which the Commission presumes that the public interest requires terminating competition orders more than 20 years old.

The Association is based in Alexandria, Virginia. The order prohibits the Association and the members from, among other things, fixing prices, allocating territories and disparaging nonmembers in the course of selling and distributing dental goods, including professional equipment and furniture.

The petition will be placed on the public record and will be subject to public comment for 30 days, until Dec. 1. Comments should be addressed to FTC, Office of the Secretary, 6th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20580
