Elaine Kolish Named Associate Director, BCP Enforcement Division

Elaine D. Kolish has been named Associate Director of the Federal Trade Commission’s Division of Enforcement, effective immediately. She was appointed by Jodie Bernstein, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. Since October 1995, Kolish served as Acting Associate Director of the Enforcement Division. As Associate Director, Kolish will oversee the Commission’s rule and order enforcement programs in consumer protection matters. Kolish also will continue to coordinate the Bureau’s regulatory review initiatives.

Kolish has been with the FTC 15 years. Prior to her past eight years in the Enforcement Division, she was an Assistant to the Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection for four Bureau Directors. Kolish also served in the Bureau’s Litigation Office, advising staff on case preparation and litigation strategies. Previously, she was a staff attorney in the Division of Advertising Practices, working on national advertising cases.

Kolish received her J.D., magna cum laude, from Western New England College School of Law in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1980. Kolish graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, in 1976. She currently is a member of the Massachusetts Bar.

Kolish is the 1993 recipient of the FTC’s Outstanding Supervisor Award. In 1991, she received the FTC’s “Paul Rand Dixon Award,” for her outstanding contributions to the FTC’s consumer protection mission.

Kolish, 41, is married to attorney David M. FitzGerald. They reside with their two children in Alexandria, Virginia.
