Applications for approval of transactions: The FTC has received an application for approval of a transaction from the following. The FTC is seeking public comments on the application for 30 days, until August 31, 1998.

  • Global Industrial Technologies, Inc. has submitted a divestiture application to the Commission requesting that the FTC approve its proposed divestiture of the A.P. Green Silica Refractories properties to Robert R. Worthen and Dennis R. Williams and to two companies controlled by them: Utah Refractories Company and Worthen and Williams, L.L.C. The sale is required as part of a proposed consent order against Global that the FTC announced for public comment on June 26, 1998. The proposed order would settle the FTC's charges that the company's acquisition of A.P. Green Industries, Inc. would violate federal antitrust laws by combining the two largest domestic producers of glass-furnace silica refractories.
