Federal Trade Commission Chairman Robert Pitofsky has named Jeremy Bulow, Ph.D., to head the agency's Bureau of Economics. Bulow will oversee the bureau's role in providing economic analysis of the FTC's consumer protection and antitrust activities and advising the Commission and other government entities about the impact on consumers and competition of various regulatory reform initiatives. The bureau also periodically issues economic reports analyzing various aspects of the marketplace.

Bulow is the Richard Stepp Professor of Economics at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business, where he has taught since 1979. Bulow is an applied microeconomic theorist. He has done research on imperfectly competitive markets, pensions, international debt, auctions and tobacco. Bulow is a fellow of the Econometric Society and a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research.
