The Federal Trade Commission will host a joint press conference on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. E.S.T., to announce the results of an enforcement and consumer education effort targeting work-at-home business opportunity fraud. The announcement, part of the FTC’s continuing work to protect consumers from such fraud, will highlight the results of “Operation Pushing the Envelope,” which was conducted jointly with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Council of Better Business Bureaus (BBB). According to the BBB, work-at-home business opportunity fraud results in more consumer inquiries than any other fraud category. Work-at-home and business opportunity fraud ranked seventh in the FTC’s top-10 consumer fraud complaint database in 2002.
