The Federal Trade Commission will hold a press conference on Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at 11 am EST to announce the settlement with a major U.S. company over alleged violations of the FTC’s Do Not Call (DNC) Rule. The multi-million-dollar civil penalty is the largest ever obtained by the Commission in a consumer protection enforcement case. The National DNC Registry, in effect since October 2003, now contains more than 110 million phone numbers, and is designed to prevent consumers who have registered their number from getting unwanted calls from telemarketers.
