Federal Trade Commission Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras will travel to Tokyo, Japan, Seoul, Korea, and Beijing, China from April 1 through April 10. The Chairman and other FTC staff will be meeting with officials from government agencies responsible for competition law enforcement and policy formulation, as well as those from agencies responsible for consumer protection and US business groups. The meetings are designed to strengthen relationships through face-to-face interaction, providing a firm basis for future cooperation, and to promote convergence in policy and law in areas of competition and consumer protection.

The Chairman will be making a public speech in Tokyo on competition topics (including intellectual property cases and upcoming FTC hearings on single firm exclusionary conduct), followed by a question and answer period moderated by Akihiko Matsui, professor of economics at the University of Tokyo. A press event will follow.
