Federal Trade Commission Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras today announced the appointments of two new deputy directors of the FTC’s Bureau of Competition. Kenneth L. Glazer joins the agency from The Coca-Cola Company, and David P. Wales, Jr. from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP’s Washington office.

Kenneth L. Glazer

Glazer has served in a variety of positions in the Legal Department at Coca-Cola since 1993, most recently as Senior Competition Counsel. He has handled litigation, mergers and acquisitions, and international transactions, as well as intellectual property licensing, marketing and customer agreements, sales and distribution issues, corporate compliance, and investigations. He has published numerous articles on antitrust, and has spoken on antitrust issues at a variety of national and state conferences. He holds a leadership position in the Antitrust Section of the American Bar Association, and has served as senior editor of Antitrust Law Journal.

Glazer earned his J.D. from Stanford University Law School, where he was a member of the Stanford Law Review, and a B.A. with high distinction from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, the State Bar of California, and the State Bar of Georgia, where he has served as Chairman of the Antitrust Section.

David P. Wales, Jr.

Before joining Cadwalader, Wichersham & Taft LLP, where he was a partner in the firm’s antitrust practice since 2005, Wales was a partner in the antitrust practice group at Shearman & Sterling LLP. He has handled litigation, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, distribution arrangements, competitor collaborations, and grand jury investigations. From 2001 to 2003, he served as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, handling the full range of policy, investigative, and enforcement matters before the Division, including working on U.S. v. Microsoft and the DirecTV/Echostar, Northrop Grumman/TRW, General Dynamics/Newport News, and Univision/HBC mergers.

Wales has addressed antitrust issues in speeches and a variety of publications, including testimony before the Antitrust Modernization Commission. He earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Syracuse University College of Law, where he was a member of the Syracuse Law Review and Order of the Coif, and a B.A. from The Pennsylvania State University. He is a member of the Antitrust Section of the American Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar, and the New York State Bar.
