Federal Trade Commission Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras has named Jeanne Bumpus to be Director of the agency’s Office of Congressional Relations. Anna H. Davis, who served in that capacity for almost five years, recently left the agency to become the Executive Director for Legislative Affairs at the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards.
“Jeanne is an outstanding public servant,” said Chairman Majoras. “I am confident that her considerable experience in working on Capitol Hill will enable the Commission to continue its record of excellence in providing timely, accurate, and useful information to Congress regarding consumer protection and antitrust issues.”
Bumpus, who currently is Staff Director for the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, also served as Staff Director and General Counsel for the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and as Senior Counsel for the Subcommittee on Consumer Affairs. She has been a principal advisor to U.S. Senator John McCain as Chairman of the Indian Affairs Committee, and while he was Chairman of the Commerce Committee. Bumpus previously served as Legislative Counsel for former U.S. Senator Slade Gorton of Washington, and as a Legal Associate in the law firm of Davis Wright Tremaine in Seattle, Washington. She has a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of California, San Diego.
