A half-day “back to basics” workshop on complying with truth-in-advertising laws is being presented on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, by the Federal Trade Commission’s Southeast Region and the Atlanta Bar Association, in cooperation with the Better Business Bureau Serving Metro Atlanta, Athens, and Northeast Georgia. Green Lights & Red Flags: FTC Rules of the Road for Advertisers features a roster of national experts discussing the latest developments in advertising law for attorneys, business owners, and marketing executives.

Topics to be examined at the workshop include:

  • FTC Advertising Law – Understanding the rules of the road;
  • The Science of Compliance – The basics of advertising substantiation;
  • The Secure Entrepreneur – Best practices to avoid, assess, and address a data security breach;
  • Avoiding a Promotion Commotion – Practical advice on avoiding promotional pitfalls;
  • If the Government Comes to Call – The inside story on state and federal consumer protection investigations; and
  • When Your Competitor Crosses the Line: Self-regulation or Litigation? – Weighing the legal options when a competitor’s ads are deceptive.

Green Lights & Red Flags will be held at the State Bar of Georgia, 104 Marietta Street NW in Atlanta, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The admission fee of $149 ($119 for Atlanta Bar Association members and $99 for non-lawyers) includes a CD of all workshop materials.
