How do consumers benefit from America’s antitrust laws? Learn all about it in a new brochure from the Federal Trade Commission, “Competition Counts: How Consumers Win When Businesses Compete.”

This plain-language guide is written for consumers and business people who might not know how the FTC’s Bureau of Competition helps to ensure that consumers have choices in price, selection, and service. By enforcing antitrust laws, it explains, the FTC promotes healthy competition and challenges anticompetitive business practices to ensure that consumers have access to quality goods and services, and that businesses can compete on the merits of their work.

“Competition Counts” highlights the FTC’s mission to promote and protect competition and describes business practices that affect consumers the most: company mergers, agreements among competitors, restrictive agreements between manufacturers and product dealers, and monopolies.

The brochure, available at www.ftc.gov/competitioncounts, encourages readers to contact the FTC or state antitrust agencies if they suspect illegal behavior.

The FTC’s Bureau of Competition works with the Bureau of Economics to investigate alleged anticompetitive business practices and, when appropriate, recommends that the Commission take law enforcement action. To inform the Bureau about particular business practices, call 202-326-3300, send an e-mail to antitrust@ftc.gov, or write to the Office of Policy and Coordination, Room 394, Bureau of Competition, Federal Trade Commission, 600 Pennsylvania Ave, N.W., Washington, DC 20580. To learn more about the Bureau of Competition, read “Competition Counts” at www.ftc.gov/competitioncounts.
