The Federal Trade Commission today announced the agenda for its second PrivacyCon, a public forum that will continue and expand collaboration among leaders from academia, research, consumer advocacy, and industry on the privacy and security implications of emerging technologies.

PrivacyCon 2017 will take place in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 12, 2017 and include opening remarks from FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez.

The conference will feature 18 presentations of original research on important consumer privacy and security issues and a closing panel moderated by Jessica Rich, Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection. The event will cover five major topic areas: the Internet of Things (IoT) and big data; mobile privacy; consumer privacy expectations; online behavioral advertising; and information security. During each session, panelists will present their privacy research and then participate in a discussion addressing the broader issues raised by the research.

The FTC’s first PrivacyCon event, held in January 2016, included a wide range of stakeholders who discussed the latest research and trends related to consumer privacy and data security. The event attracted over 300 attendees and 1,500 virtual attendees via webcast.

PrivacyCon, which is free and open to the public, will take place at the FTC’s Constitution Center conference facility, located at 400 Seventh St, SW, in Washington. A full version of the agenda, including links to abstracts of the research being presented, is available online. The event will also be available via live webcast and live tweeted via Twitter using the hashtag #PrivacyCon.

In addition, the FTC is also planning a networking event on the afternoon of Jan. 11 for privacy researchers and organizations that support privacy research.
