A team of 16 government employees from the Federal Trade Commission and four other agencies who cooperatively developed a "one-stop" website for consumer information today received a Hammer Award. The award, which was created by Vice President Albert Gore, recognizes the team's innovative approach to providing online links to the websites of federal agencies.

"The FTC is proud to be part of an initiative that puts consumers first," said Jodie Bernstein, Director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection. "This website is a truly terrific tool, with links to consumer information from 61 federal agencies. Whether you're looking for information about health, investments, product recalls or a zip code, you can find it at consumer.gov."

The site, popularly known as "consumer dot gov" -- http://www.consumer.gov -- is a cooperative effort of the FTC, Securities and Exchange Commission, Food and Drug Administration, Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The site provides consumer information in 10 categories: food; health; home; transportation; children; smart buying; product safety; money and education. The FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection maintains the site's server and provides technical support.
