On October 30, 2000 at 10:00 a.m., the Federal Trade Commission will hold a joint press conference with the Government of Ontario, Canada and Canadian law enforcement agencies in Toronto to announce the results of the largest international law enforcement sweep to date against telemarketers of so-called credit card protection programs. Called "Operation Protection Deception," the sweep highlights the coordinated work of the strategic partnership between U.S. and Canadian officials to identify, investigate and bring actions against cross-border telemarketing fraud operators. Also attending the conference will be a representative from Visa Canada to discuss the protections already afforded credit card users in that country, as well a Canadian consumer victim.
