Consent agreements given final approval:

Following a public comment period, the Commission has made final a consent agreement with the following: Cox Enterprises, Inc. and Tyco International, Ltd. Following a public comment period, the Commission has made final a consent agreement with the following: Unocal Corporation and Agrium, Inc. The Commission vote to finalize the consent order was 4-0, with Commissioner Orson Swindle not participating. (File No. 001-0100; staff contact is John B. Following a public comment period, the Commission has made final a consent agreement with the following: Weider Nutrition International, Inc. The Commission vote to finalize the consent order was 5-0. Publication of Federal Register notice:

The Commission has approved the publication of a Federal Register notice regarding the following: Correction of Previously Published Civil Penalty Adjustments. As explained in the notice, which will be published shortly, the Commission is correcting certain previously published adjustments in the civil penalty amounts within its jurisdiction. These corrections will maintain the civil penalty amounts currently published in Commission Rule 1.98, as last adjusted in 1996. The corrected notice will also preserve certain previously published amendments that incorporate civil penalty adjustments for Recycled Oil Rule violations, which were inadvertently omitted from the 1996 adjustment. The amendments, which are not subject to public comment period, will become effective November 20, 2000. The Commission vote to publish the Federal Register notice was 5-0. State petition submitted to the Commission:

The Commissioner for the North Dakota Department of Banking and Financial Institutions has requested the following: That the Federal Trade Commission make a determination about how the federal Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act affects North Dakota's financial privacy law. Under Section 507 of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (15 U.S.C. § 6807 (1999)), interested parties can petition the Commission for a determination as to whether a state law provides greater protection to consumers than the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. If a state law is inconsistent with the federal law and provides greater protection than the federal law, the federal law would not preempt the state law.
