FTC sends payments to CafePress users
The FTC is sending 20,044 payments totaling more than $370,000 to users who had their Social Security number exposed in the CafePress data breach and filed a valid claim before the deadline.
According to the FTC, CafePress failed to use reasonable data security measures and misled users about its data security practices. After a major data breach, the company failed to share important information with CafePress users. Information about the hack could have helped users protect themselves. The settlement required the company to improve its data security programs and to pay money, which the FTC is using to help people who had their Social Security number exposed in the breach.
