Response/Comments

You are correct that your Item 5(a) response needs to report in 2017 10-digit NAPCS codes. You can look up an appropriate 2017 NAPCS code in the “Manufacturing and Mining” tab of this spreadsheet: https://www2.census.gov/programs-surveys/economic-census/technical-documentation/napcs/2012_Product_Code_to_2017_NAPCS-Based_Collection_Code_20200312_no_highlight.xlsx. You should select your 2017 NAPCS codes from Column G (“2017 NAPCS Based Collection Code”). The 2017 NAPCS code that you select from Column G should map to a Column D code (“2012 Published Product Code”) that begins with the same 6 digits as the 2017 NAICS code that you are reporting in.

Subject: HSR Item 5(a) Product Code

I am working on an HSR filing and specifically Item 5(a). It asks for a 10-digit Product Code, which in the literature I see refers to the 2017 NAPCS Product Code. When I look at those product codes, I see only 9- and 11- digit codes. I think the right code for the product in question is 671170101 Materials and Supplies for Electrical Equipment, Appliances, and Component Manufacturing. Can you tell me how I find the 10-digit code or advise on how better to fill out the form?
