Did you pay for a HomeAdvisor membership? You may be eligible for a refund.

The FTC is sending payments totaling more than $3 million to 110,372 businesses who paid for HomeAdvisor memberships. If you get a check, please cash it within 90 days.

The FTC is also reviewing and validating claims from businesses who were charged for mHelpDesk, an optional HomeAdvisor service. Legitimate emails about this settlement will come from admin@HomeAdvisorClaim.com.

What was the settlement about?

The FTC filed a complaint against HomeAdvisor, and the company paid money to settle. According to the complaint, HomeAdvisor made false, misleading, or unsubstantiated claims about the quality and source of the leads it was selling to home service providers in search of potential customers. The agency also alleged that HomeAdvisor told businesses that their annual membership included one free month of mHelpDesk, but that wasn’t true. The optional service cost an additional $59.99 for the first month.

Who was eligible to apply for a refund?

You were eligible to apply for a refund if you were charged for an mHelpDesk membership and got an email or letter from the FTC with a claim number. If you need help filing a claim, call the refund administrator at 1-833-915-1144.
