FTC sends payments to people who bought DNA test kits or health reports
The FTC is sending PayPal payments to eligible customers who bought DNA test kits or health reports from Vitagene and didn’t cash their check sent by the FTC.
Vitagene promised to store its customers’ health and genetic information in a secure environment. But the FTC says that Vitagene didn’t keep that promise and that its security failures left more than 2,000 health reports unprotected.
The FTC entered into a settlement with Vitagene, which required the company to pay money, delete data it shouldn’t have, get customer consent before sharing data, and establish a strong security program. The FTC is now using the money to provide refunds to eligible Vitagene customers.
The FTC first sent payments in September 2024, which resulted in more than $24,900 in refunds. Now, the FTC is sending PayPal payments to people who didn’t cash their check.
If you get a PayPal payment, please accept it within 30 days.
